Alumni Spotlight - Rickey A. Waters Jr
Rickey Allen Waters Jr. is a proud father of two beautiful boys. Fatherhood has been very important to him since he was young because his father left his life when he was just three years old. Rickey vowed never to let his children experience the same absence. He has been manifesting everything he desires and deserves in life through prayer, trust in God, and His words. Rickey truly understands the power of the tongue and the impact of the words we speak to ourselves.
Rickey graduated from PBH Affinity Circles and credits the cohort with teaching him a lot and providing essential tools for success. It boosted his confidence, helped him gain weight through education on proper nutrition, and improved his financial management skills. Rickey states, “These circles have made me a better person and a better man.” He also attributes the cohort to helping him secure a great job, which has been instrumental in his journey.
Currently, Rickey is fighting the court system to bring his youngest son, Chase, home. He has been in this battle for two years now. Through a referral from the cohort, Rickey now attends a fatherhood group hosted at the Kingsley Center, which he finds incredibly helpful for his journey. It has shaped his views on fatherhood and the type of father he wants to be. The group has impacted his life in numerous ways; the stories shared by other fathers have been particularly impactful. By taking the time to listen and learn, Rickey has opened his mind to possibilities he once believed were impossible.
In closing, Rickey shares in his own words that he hopes his story inspires others to stand strong and fight for what's right. He acknowledges that the road is neither easy nor over, but as he continues, he is still learning new things and applying the teachings from the class. The greatest impact on his life has been this growth, and he wants to continue evolving.
"Fatherhood is about resilience, love, and unwavering dedication," Rickey says. "It's about facing challenges head-on and emerging stronger." He has learned that being a father means being a constant source of support and strength, being present, and engaging in every moment. His journey has taught him that resilience is key to overcoming any obstacle and that every setback is an opportunity to grow and become a better parent. Through all the struggles, his love for his children has been his driving force.
"Fatherhood has shown me the importance of perseverance, patience, and faith. It has been a journey of self-discovery and personal growth, and I am committed to being the best father I can be for my two beautiful sons."
